You do not fly over the boardwalk. From a distance the Parachute Jump, the Cyclone, and the Wonder Wheel sit as toys on the sand, with the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge in the same frame. Staten Island lies across the Narrows; the Manhattan skyline is a wall to the north.
That extra geography is the point of the longer tour: harbor, a look toward southern Brooklyn, then back past the Statue of Liberty and up the Hudson. Summer weekends make the boardwalk a moving pattern; off-season the empty beach and steel rides are just as graphic.
